Ludmila Gin, PhD
MBACP (Accred.)
I am an experienced integrative therapist, an accredited member of BACP. I did my counselling and psychotherapy training at the University of Roehampton obtaining a Postgraduate Diploma with Merit (2014). I am also a certified EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and Reiki practitioner.
I was born and grew up in St Petersburg (Russia), then lived in Israel, Holland and for the last 20 years in the UK. I have always been fascinated by human mind: how it works, how we shape ideas and how these ideas, in their turn, shape us. This interest led me to study World Religions, obtaining PhD degree from the University of Cambridge in 2009. I enjoyed the intellectual challenge of research, published articles, presented papers at academic conferences and also actively participated in promoting interfaith dialogue.
Years spent in academia sharpened my analytical skills, stimulated my curiosity and taught me the art of asking questions. However, I gradually realised that academic career was not my true vocation as it began to feel too dry and lacking the spark and the sense of meaningfulness that interaction with another person at a deep level provides. My development as a therapist was a natural evolvement of my deep interest in understanding human psyche and in helping people overcome emotional challenges and create happier, more fulfilling life.
I have faith in people’s inner strength and help them to tap into their hidden resources, release the residues of past traumas and find new meanings, unique for them. In my approach I am influenced by the ideas of Buddhism, Existentialism as well as by recent research in neuroscience that reveals how emotions are processed by the brain and integrated in our nervous system.
I believe that openness to exploration and change as well the trusting cooperative relationship between a therapist and a client are the key elements that ensure successful therapeutic work. Usually a couple of sessions are enough to form an idea about the potential of our work together.
